If you received a positive result on a pregnancy test, following up with an ultrasound is an essential next step for confirming your pregnancy.

An ultrasound protects your health and safety by revealing key information you need to know before deciding on your pregnancy.

An ultrasound can tell:

  • Whether you have a progressing pregnancy. Verifying the existence of a heartbeat is essential because an estimated 10-20% of known pregnancies end in miscarriage.
  • The location of your pregnancy. Some pregnancies are ectopic, which means they grow outside the uterus. This is a medical emergency and needs prompt treatment to ensure your safety.
  • The age of your pregnancy. This will help you determine possible next steps.

We offer referrals for free, onsite ultrasound provided by medical staff from Turlock Pregnancy and Health Center (TPHC). If you think you may be pregnant, contact us today to schedule a free, confidential appointment.

What Can I Expect During an Ultrasound?

When you call our office, we can arrange for a limited obstetrical ultrasound in our Angels Camp office provided by medical staff from our partnering medical clinic (TPHC).

You will be asked to come to your ultrasound appointment with a full bladder. This helps your nurse get a clear view of the pregnancy.

During the appointment, you will lie on your back on the examination table, and the nurse will apply gel on your lower abdomen. Your nurse will then use a transducer (the wand-like part of the ultrasound machine) and move it through the gel and across your abdomen to gain the best view of the pregnancy. The nurse will take measurements of your pregnancy, check its location, and ensure it has a heartbeat.

You will see your pregnancy on a screen, and the nurse will describe what they’re doing as they go along. If it is determined during your abdominal scan that you are less than 14 weeks pregnant, a transvaginal scan will also be completed (these are more accurate for earlier pregnancies).

Afterward, the nurse will explain their findings, and you will have time to speak with one of our caring team members about your options and ask any questions.

Is the Ultrasound Free?
